If you look up any website or advice about internet marketing…or even just having a website, you’re sure to find references to social media, Facebook fan pages and email marketing.
Why is this so important?
Simply put: building your “crowd” (as Frank Kern often puts it) is probably the single most important aspect of your marketing online.
And here’s an important reason why: It’s not affected by Google!
Now some people have their opinions and experiences with Google. Some like them and some don’t. But the hard facts are that often you have to keep up with the changes to the search algorithm. And if you don’t, a lot of your hard work in building websites often come to nothing.
Yes they are actively getting rid of spammy sites and those robotic article places…but sometimes you can be caught in the crossfire.
In fact these days some experts recommend NOT even starting a website because a) people are not reading sites that much anymore…(which is all the more ironic if you reading this!) and b) it’s getting tougher to rank in Google with methods that are not even a year old.
But…if you build a list of people they are YOURS and yours alone.
Until that time when you bore them, annoy them or send too many emails and they unsubscribe! (by the way, this will happen from time to time with people on your list so don’t get too down about it when it does)
Another reason to consider why you want to build your crowd: with a list you can get first-hand feedback! Email systems like Aweber allow you to track opens and see what kind of response you get to your messages.
And from that you can choose what strategy you want to pursue. If you build a Facebook list using a page, you get comments and likes so you can see what people are responding to.
All this information is valuable…in more ways than one. You can use your feedback to recommend other people’s stuff (often called Affiliate marketing)…and if you are test things out you can make some money off of it. It’s actually a common business model.
So how do you build a list?
- Use squeeze pages on your website (read the Free Report for more on this – click here to find out)
- You can start a Facebook page
- You can join Twitter
Using squeeze pages with opt-ins, where people take action, is a common and excellent way to build a list. Just remember that how you do it will depend on the money you want to spend AND the time you invest in testing your messages/free gifts to get people to sign up.
Now if you are reading this and you don’t think that your business is the kind of business that needs lists my advice is to try it out anyway. You’d be surprised at the response you can get.
